El taxista se mueve entre la rabia, la cobardía, el caos, la impotencia y el dolor... sobre todo cuando se cruza con una pasajera que antes le había dado una información equívoca al espectador: en el desarrollo de la trama no queda muy claro si es una adicta, o una mujer que busca afecto con desespero, o una mala personificación de Amarilla, la protagonista de Opio en las nubes (el gato, su vida desordenada, una mujer "cosa seria") es inevitable no pensar en una caricatura desfigurada de dicho personaje.
La sangre y la lluvia no deja espacio para el amor, más bien al encuentro de dos tragedias distintas en la realidad colombiana, y es ahí donde viene la crítica de Navas, su director. Es casi como estar de pasajero en el taxi que entre los vidrios opacos y las conversaciones cortadas, que se dan sin gracia alguna; se van revelando las putas, gamines, taxistas haciendo labores de policía, accidentes e inseguridades de una ciudad que esconde a sus habitantes sordos tras las cortinas que tapan lo que pasa allá afuera después de que el sol se esconde.
La maldad de sus personajes no queda clara en un roll que los identifique con cierta organización, incluso se sostiene en el aire la duda de por qué se asesinó al hermano del taxista, por qué está involucrado en una serie de hechos que incluyen venganzas, armas, malos por que sí, sin justificación... tal vez haya alguna intención desde el director, o sólo pasó de largo dar mayor información al respecto.
Sin embargo hay algo a lo que Navas fue fiel... no hay lucha de clases, esa fórmula predecible que él se esmera en criticar de la TV en Colombia. Al contrario, aquí todos se unen, son iguales gracias a la tragedia: de ser víctima, de ser malo, de laborar en lo que no se quiere, de ser ciudadano de la noche, de tener un amargo pasado.
La sangre como la lluvia se cuela en las esquinas, alcantarillas, carros, ventanas, en esa botella de licor o la necesidad de un pase que borre realidades, pero al fin y al cabo, cuando amanece cuando Bogotá despierta en la película queda el guayabo de la muerte y la pasividad, ésa que justifica los diálogos entrecortados de sus protagonistas, dando paso a un final abierto, que no concluye... como quien dice que el cuento sigue, que esto no acaba y que en cualquier momento le puede tocar; cumpliéndose así la frase de Ángela: "el mañana no existe, no sea güevón."
